The last few days have been full of angst and tantrums in this house, and not all necessarily put on by The Dictator. Yesterday was a nice change around here.
In the morning I got up with The Dictator and made his breakfast (which is all about the Rice Crispies lately), fed the dog and did a few dishes. We went down to the playroom shortly after that because I thought Stewart was going to sleep in (after he woke our son up at 2am, accidentally – but that is another story) so I wanted to try and be quiet for him. About 10 minutes later Stewart came downstairs and asked me if I wanted to go get ready and have a shower so we could go out for breakfast (a shower! before nap time!). Oh hell yeah!
So we got out of the house without the usual bickering about Stewart helping me with the kid and packing his bag and made it to A&W for breakfast. The Dictator decided he was going to eat a large amount of my food which was fine by me. He was so well behaved and soon we were off to Home Depot to pick up some drain cleaner. After that we went to the 2 local grocery stores to stock up on pub-grub for the Superbowl. All with no fuss from our boy.
By the time we made it home it was time for The Dictator to have a lunch, and Stewart did some vacuuming (with The Dictators assistance) and made fresh squeezed OJ (I found our juicer covered in dust in the back of a cupboard). I dusted and picked up toys. Not exciting right? Well trust me getting the cleaning out of the way with some help and so quickly totally made my day.
The dictator snoozed for 2 hours, while I played on the computer, watched TV with Stewart and folded a load of laundry. When the dictator got up the Superbowl was about to start, but the little guy was hungry AGAIN! So I made him dinner and put together the artery clogging pub-grub that the adults were going to call dinner and hung out upstairs until The Dictator was ready to go downstairs. We watched the game all the way through, and the Dictator either played in his playroom or watched with us. It was nice not to chase him around the whole time!
It was just a great day to hang out and be a nice little family, and I wish every day could be like that but life sometimes gets in the way, you know?
Today I tackle my nemesis: the laundry pile.
